Dancing Fountains & viewing the Burj Khalifah at Dubai Mall

The Dancing Fountains at Dubai Mall is probably the most famous free attraction in Dubai, and something worth doing if you are visiting for a day or two. The fountain has day shows which are supposedly around 1pm and 1.30pm, although when I went there, there was not no 1pm show. However the night shows are much better to watch, as it gets ridiculously hot during the day, especially during summer and you can only see the fancy lights at night. The night shows start at 6pm, lasts about 5 minutes and there is one show every half an hour until 9pm. The night shows get more visitors, so be there about 10 to 15 minutes prior to the show you want to catch, otherwise you'll have to make do with peeping over people's shoulders.

To get to the fountains and Dubai Mall by Metro, take the Metro to the Burj Khalifa station. Be warned that it is a pretty long 10 to 15 minute walk from the station to the mall, and the mall itself is quite huge, so if you're going by Metro to see a show, give yourself half an hour to get from the Burj Khalifah station to the actual location of the fountains, and get ready for a long walk.

The area where you watch the fountains also gives you the best ground view of the famous Burj Khalifah, where you can take as many shameless selfies as you wish, as well as some creative photography.
